Trying to choose your new RTX 40 series GPU? ASUS has two powerful options for you

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 series is here and ready to give you a significant boost in gaming performance, especially when real-time ray tracing is required. But choosing which RTX 4090 or 4080 model you want is a serious decision. However, ASUS has two models ready to go, with the ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4090 and 4080 and the TUF Gaming RTX 4090 and 4080, both of which come in standard and overclocked configurations.

The RTX 40 series is making a splash. The Ada Lovelace graphics architecture comes with a significant leap in performance over the previous Ampere generation. This is especially true for energy efficiency, which has seen up to a 2x improvement. While the GPU has more CUDA cores to power through traditional game rendering, upgrades to its Tensor Cores and RT Cores provide even greater improvements to some of the most advanced games.

With up to 2x faster ray tracing is seriously accelerated thanks to the 3rd generation RT GPU cores. AI performance gets a similar boost from the 4th generation tensor cores. The new Tensor cores also play a key role in enabling DLSS 3.0, which can intelligently interpolate between rendered frames in real-time to create new frames for super-smooth renderings, even in CPU-bound scenarios.

Keeping up with all that GPU power is no easy task, but ASUS knows what it takes and has designed its graphics cards to be up to the task.

One key detail is keeping the GPU running cool enough to run at peak performance for as long as possible. To this end, ASUS has incorporated a patented vapor chamber design and milled heat spreader into the ROG Strix models to efficiently dissipate heat away from the GPU. And using a huge 3.5 slot card design, ASUS was able to pack a massive heatsink and cooling fins that can provide more surface area for the fans to pass cool air through.

TUF Gaming models are built with a die-cast shroud, frame and backplate that are vented, improving airflow and heat dissipation while providing a structurally rigid metal exoskeleton for the powerful graphics card.

The ROG Strix and TUF Gaming models offer larger Axial-tech fans that can carry 23% more air than previous 30-series cards. In the TUF Gaming line, these fans use dual ball bearings to last twice as long conventional fans, giving you a graphics card that’s built to last.

Keeping the GPU running is one piece of the puzzle, but keeping it powered is another. In the ASUS ROG Strix graphics cards, ASUS uses digital power management and high-current power stages along with 15K capacitors. TUG Gaming models use military grade capacitors rated to last 20,000 hours at 105 degrees Celsius. They ensure that the GPU is fed constant and clean power for sustained performance in demanding use cases.

If you’re not satisfied with base performance levels, ASUS also includes GPU Tweak III software to let you tweak your card and monitor its performance.

And for an ultra-clean aesthetic, ASUS offers a dedicated range of THOR power supplies with the THOR 1200P2, specifically featuring native cabling to connect to the RTX 40 series without an adapter.
